By providing customers with mobile wallet loyalty cards, Carrefour expanded the reach and usage of their loyalty program.
📣 < 72 hours to launch
Using Badge’s no-code UI, Carrefour was able to build a mobile wallet loyalty solution in less than 72 hours.
Carrefour is a French multinational retail and wholesaling corporation that operates a chain of hypermarkets, grocery stores and convenience stores. In 2024, the group had 14,000 stores in 40 countries.
Carrefour turned to Badge’s mobile wallet platform to drive loyalty card adoption and increase Average Transaction Value.
The Challenge
Carrefour had a mobile wallet loyalty card solution that issued users static passes. Their solution didn’t allow them to execute marketing campaigns, and in turn, their loyalty cards had low adoption, particularly at Carrefour Express stores (Carrefour’s convenience store format).
“It’s hard to get convenience store customers to do anything because they are usually grabbing something in a rush because they forgot something or are running late to a party.” - Marketing Team @ Carrefour
Not only was Carrefour hoping to increase loyalty card adoption rates, but they were also were eager to increase how much customers spent when they made a purchase, e.g., Average Transaction Value.
The Solution
Using Badge’s no-code UI, Carrefour was able to build a mobile wallet loyalty solution in less than 72 hours. Key elements of their loyalty card include:
A newly designed Carrefour Express VIP Card, with animated GIFs as cover images for Google Wallet
Loyalty card sign-up pages accessible via in-store QR codes
Weekly promotional campaigns, including push notifications and temporary pass changes with barcodes for specific product offerings
Location-based messages sent to customers anytime they’re near a Carrefour Express store or a competitor location
Carrefour has taken their partnership with Badge one step further with enhanced data accessibility. By sharing transaction data between the two teams, Carrefour and Badge have built a complete data funnel that enables greater insights for optimization.
"Badge is now the best way to engage Carrefour customers.” - Marketing Team @ Carrefour
Results
Since launch, Carrefour has seen remarkable results, including:
19% of transactions with a promotional campaign redemption are coming from new loyalty card sign-ups Prior to installing the mobile wallet Carrefour Express VIP Card, these users were not known Carrefour customers, and now, are reachable through location-based messaging and push notifications.
A significant increase in basket size across all groups:
25% for previously non-loyalty members
35% for existing loyalty members
A 15% redemption rate from promotional campaigns sent via the Carrefour Express VIP Card
Carrefour is continuing to expand Badge’s mobile wallet solution to more Carrefour Express stores, and the VIP Card will be debuting at Carrefour Hypermarkets in Q1 2025.
